Ever
since I moved to Amsterdam 14 years ago, Alison has been there pouring
me a beer. It began in the Oude Veerhuis, where Id meet my brother
for a beer whenever he was in town. When CopyNet were our printers,
our first stop was always the Amstelstroom, where Alison got a Stun
hot off the press. For the last couple of years, she was the midweek
afternoon face of the Flying Dutchman, but sadly for us boozers, no
more. Alison decided to go for a change of career, not in the RAI, as
we printed last month (I cant remember who actually told us),
although its close by. She still does the occasional shift when
Terry & Cath are away on holiday though.
Mind
you, were not the only ones that love Alison. Although shes
never come first in our Bar Person of the Year competition, shes
picked up trophies for Second and Third place in the past and has never
been outside the Top Six since we started.
It
goes without saying that the Flying Dutchman was packed for Alisons
last shift. Her best friends Linda and Jo were there of course.
Jo was official photographer for the day and she got through loads
of film as the day went on. We were hoping to use some of her pictures
here, but they got "mislaid" somewhere between the lab
and the shop, so she still hasnt got them back.
Katie
says she comes into town twice a year. Tara reckons it's closer
to twice every ten years.
Cherry
brought Rosie, who got a bit scared while playing with the dog.
She didnt realise it was not much more than a puppy.
Paudge
always had a soft spot for Alison. Well, so does Phil.
Mike,
Leslie, Josie, Katie & Joan were there of course!
Have
to confess, we cant remember who this is with Alison.
Ann
was happy to work the evening of the party. Theyve always
had a good working-relationship and now Ann has got her job.
And
heres Phil again! We just had to take advantage of him being
so magnanimous to give us permission to take his photograph. But
of course, anything for the love of his life!
Well
miss you pouring our drinks Alison, but I hope well continue to
see you and Phil around the bars, as customers.
