Hello folks, it’s been quite a while since we’ve discussed some serious matter with you, but, there’s a time for everything, and the time is NOW!!!

You ever wanted things to change? Now is the moment!

You ever wanted to make a difference? Now is your chance!

GO VOTE!! Voting is like wishing!

Be careful what you vote for, you might get what you want.

Most of you will have received your voting form last week. And various publications from the different political parties. Including that amazing VVD letter, in English!

Promises being made by all these parties, so many promises, so many different agenda’s. WHO to vote for?

When you vote, you can say: I tried my best to make this city a better place. When you vote, you can say: I care about Amsterdam. So take the time to vote.

Every political party has it’s own programme of course, and they all make promises. Promises, promises! Some of them make promises they know they won’t keep. Some of them make promises they know they can’t keep. Some of them will make promises just to reach a particular part of the electorate.

But don’t get taken in by promises only!

Scrutinise their manifesto!

Think! Every party has got some good ideas (except the fascists, of course!), but always look at the things they don’t say!

The VVD has a good point. Make sure every foreigner speaks well enough Dutch. Great! I’m all for it. But they don’t tell you they also want to get rid of the coffee-shops.

PVDA has got a very good list of "Things to do". But Labour hasn’t been the same since they smelled big money (sounds familiar?). And they swing too easily.

CDA is as bad as ever. Puritanical lot of do-goods. But they also want to get rid of he coffee-shops. What about the cheaper housing in Amsterdam. How many off us can buy our own house, or pay extortionate rent?

GROEN Links has got a big program again, and what jumps out is: Priority to tackle domestic violence. Very good! But why link it entirely to alcohol-abuse? And why do they want even more people to come and seek asylum in the Netherlands? We haven’t even got enough accommodation to house the population already here. Haven’t we got enough homeless people?

A’DAM Anders/De Groenen have got one of the worst programmes ever. I don’t want to waste time & space on them.

Mokum Mobiel I like, but they know very well they’ll never get the chance to do it all, so they can promise anything they want!

The same with a lot of the other small parties. Don’t get me wrong, most of them want to do the right things, but they’ll never get the chance.

The only party I feel I can vote for is D66. They want parents to be responsible for their children, they want to clean out the city (from anything undesirable), they want to have strict rules about children from school-age actually going to school. Teach everybody better Dutch, and last, but certainly not least, they won’t mess with the coffee-shops, and they’re all for free horeca opening-hours.

But do vote, it’s important, and if you don’t know who to vote for: GO D66!!

Elly
