Welcome to the first Stun of the new year, and for the first time in years, a real January one, not a joint January/February edition.

I spent New Year’s Eve at home with Elly, celebrating our 17 years together, with amongst other things, a couple of bottles of Cava, which was much more fun than being surrounded by nutters letting off fireworks. So, no photos from around the bars that night, but because the 31st was a Saturday, the bars were also busy the night before and I was out with my new camera; see pages 17 - 21.

Yes, new camera! I got a nice little Canon compact camera for Christmas. My old Coolpix compact has served me well for over 7 years, but I was leaving it at home more often and lugging my big, heavy Nikon with its wider wide-angle lens around instead. My new Canon will lighten my load: it’s got a wide wide-angle, plus all sorts of digital wizardry like scene recognition and face detection. All I’ve got to do now is work out how it works.

I suppose practice makes perfect, so I’ll be out and about with my new toy, taking photos for next month’s Stun. We’ll have February’s Stun in the bars in time for St. Valentine’s Day so why not send a message to your loved one? Read all about it in Tales from the Gutter.
