The Editor's Bit

A new year and a new Stun, although it’s pretty much the same as previous years; you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, apparently. I’m not going to give any predictions for the year ahead, but when it comes to our Cover Competition, I want to look up in future.

I’m sure I can’t be alone in not noticing what’s above my eye line; I lived here for over 20 years before I noticed there was a big church at the top of Spuistraat.

November’s cover with the statues above Jumbo on Damrak only got one correct entry, but I will persevere! For this month’s Cover Competition, all you have to do to get an Honourable Mention in this column next month is tell me where this above eye-level artwork is located, unless you’re known as Big Al, in which case, we’ll need the names of the artwork and the architect! Contact details are on page 2 or you can tell me if you see me in a bar, but make sure I write it down because I’m liable to forget.

It was great seeing Janet in town again but she had to give dancing on the benches a miss at this year’s Christmas party in Café Oporto. See pages 14 & 15 for more photos.

Molly Malone’s boss Steven suggested I drop by during the afternoon on St. Steven’s Day because all of his family would be in. I said I’d try to get there before I went for Boxing Day dinner with my family, but that never happened, although I did make it to Molly’s on my way home. I missed Steven’s family, but I did get to meet Jim! I’ve known his son Alex for years and daughter Sarah back in Cork even longer.

There’s no Being Frank on Football this month, Frank and Rung are taking a well deserved holiday, so there’s no Premier Predictions League table either, but you can always see the latest stand on the Stun website.

All of our usual stuff is here, along with a lot more photos than usual, so enjoy your first Amsterdam Stun of 2024.
